It's waining wallabies

It started drizzling a bit in the last 5 minutes of our hike and it was also the time when we saw the most wallabies  -- the parking lot (or car park as they say here). We saw a mom and her joey and two others in the space of 3 minutes. They all seemed pretty tame. We're assuming that, even tough there were signs all around asking tourists to "keep wildlife wild -- don't feed the wildlife" people clearly feed them anyway. Other people were like us, taking pictures, but there were certainly some people who just walked on past them like it was no big deal to see a wallaby up close. Maybe wallabies here are like deer for us at home. I've learned a bit about wallabies: they're part of a group of animals called macropods which means 'great-footed animal'. Kangaroos are the largest members of this group.
Speaking of wildlife, we never saw the famed Tasmanian devil. It's actually an endangered species. Apparently there's a nasty facial disfiguring cancer wiping them out. It's a rare cancer that is spread through contact. There are many conservation efforts going on to try to save them. The cancer started effecting the animals in the northeast part of the state and is moving across the state slowly.
