Shrine of Remembrance

I loved seeing this place and it was especially meaningful since today is Remembrance Day. Australians really do remember their veterans on November 11th. This shrine was built to honor the 114,000 Australians who served the British empire the the Great War and to memorialize the 19,000 who died doing so. The opening ceremony was attended by 300,000 people in 1934, which was a third of Victoria's population.
Inside is a black stone inscribed with the words 'Greater love hath no man' and every year at 11AM on the 11th day of the 11th month, which is when WWI ended, a ray of light shines through two perfectly placed apertures to illuminate the word 'love'.
